CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS WITHIN THE MNȚR LIBRARY
The National Museum of the Romanian Peasant is looking for volunteers to help with the process of renovating the Library of the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant (the book depository) after a consolidation project.
The Library of the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant (BMNȚR) is a closed-circuit library, specialized in ethnography and folklore, ethnology, anthropology, museology and art (especially peasant art), ensuring the documentary basis for the museum's activity profile. Its book collection, which is currently being expanded, includes approximately 22,000 publications, including monographs, periodicals, albums, encyclopedias, dictionaries, exhibition catalogs, bibliographies, atlases, brochures, bibliophile books, and object books.
ABOUT THE VOLUNTEERING PROGRAM
During 2016 – 2018, the main building of the museum (with the status of a historical monument) underwent an extensive consolidation and restoration project.
At this moment, the BMNȚR is in the process of renovating its book depository after an extensive consolidation and restoration project during which its entire publication collection was unavailable to the reading public. After the restoration of the furniture and the refurnishing of the depository and the reading room, the book collection will be checked and the publications will be distributed on shelves, by fields and quotas, an operation that is currently underway.
Activities carried out by volunteers
– unpacking books stored in boxes, with the support of the museum librarian;
– putting publications back on shelves according to field (Ethnology, Folk Art, Ethnomusicology, Architecture, History, Sociology, Geography, Archaeology, Museology, Literature, Religious Art, Religion, MȚR Publications, Philosophy, Culture and Civilization, Generalities, Periodicals) and quota, together with the librarian;
– checking publications, according to the alphabetical list of titles, to identify deficiencies, together with the librarian;
– providing assistance to the librarian in the process of selecting damaged documents and preparing them for reconditioning;
– providing assistance to the librarian in the process of computerizing volumes from the library collections.
WHY VOLUNTEER AT THE MȚR LIBRARY?
During the volunteer program, you will be guided by the museum librarian and will become familiar with the specific work in a closed-circuit library. Depending on your interest and the specific activities you will be involved in, you may also be guided to a series of specialized readings, which will complement your passions or professional interests.
